New Vaxis VFX 95mm Pearlaura Filters for Tilta Mirage Released
Vaxis has recently launched a new series of 95mm VFX filters – the Pearlaura Filters, compatible with the Tilta Mirage matte box. They come in three different strengths (1/2, 1/4, and 1/8) and are now available to purchase for $64.90 each.
It’s now been almost one year since the release of Tilta’s latest motorized matte box, the Mirage. While still offering the ability to accommodate 4×5.65” filters, this accessory also introduced a new 95mm circular standard, which provides a lighter solution compared to rectangular filters. Multiple 95mm filters can be stacked in front of the Mirage, thus resulting in endless creative possibilities.
Chinese company Vaxis – which is mainly known for their wireless video systems – promptly adopted the new standard and already offers an extensive range of VFX 95mm filters. We previously reported about the addition of Black Mist filters, which are now joined by three pearlescent ones. Let’s take a closer look.
Vaxis VFX 95mm Pearlaura Filters: overview
According to Vaxis, placing one of their new VFX 95mm Pearlaura filters in front of the lens will produce images with a velvet-textured look, characterized by soft, haloed highlights. The company claims that the effect is achieved without sacrificing image sharpness. Users can choose between three different levels of intensity, namely 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8.
Each filter is built using K98 optical glass and is treated with a multi-layer coating that makes it water-resistant. I couldn’t find the exact weight of these new filters, but, for reference, their Black Mist siblings weigh around 30 grams each.
