FXhome by Artlist – HitFilm Video Editor & VFX Tool now Available
Artlist, best known for its vast catalog of music and sound effects (as well as stock footage via Artgrid), has released three brand-new subscription plans (one is free) to video editing and VFX software HitFilm and image editing software Imerge. Both applications are part of FXhome, which Artlist acquired last year.
When you are getting started with filmmaking, things can get pretty complicated, pretty quickly. Shooting a video is one thing (which can also get rather complex). But putting it all together and creating a finished film that not only looks good, but doesn’t take forever to make, is another thing entirely.
That’s where HitFilm comes in handy. Artlist acquired the company behind it, FXhome, last year (blog post here) and they have integrated their stock music / sound effects / stock footage platform directly into HitFilm. So you’ll get an easy-to-use, yet powerful video editing / VFX suite.
If you are more into editing still images, Imerge, another FXhome application, is here for you. It’s kind of a combination of Photoshop and Lightroom, but without the steep learning curve.
FXhome by Artlist – HitFilm
There are three tiers to choose from (plus a fourth tier for businesses). The first tier is called Free, and it’s, well, free. The other two are called Creator and Pro, respectively.
The free version of HitFilm offers basic features and unlimited exports up to HD. At the higher tiers, you get 4K exports with HitFilm Creator and up to 8K exports with HitFilm Pro. Along with these additions, the higher tiers also include Imerge (Creator or Pro), more songs, audio effects and templates, and some additional software with the Pro tier like Mocha HitFilm, BorisFX 3D Objects and Foundry 3D Camera Tracker.
Also, free software tutorials are included at all tiers to help you get started with the application instead of having to search for help online.
This is clearly aimed at beginners and not necessarily seasoned video editing pros. But to get started without much hassle, the new HitFilm could be a very good starting point for aspiring filmmakers, especially since many high-quality assets like music, sound effects, and templates are built right into the app, even with the free version.
HitFilm is available for Microsoft Windows 11 (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit) as well as macOS 12 Monterey, macOS 11 Big Sur and macOS 10.15 Catalina. Full minimum requirements here.
Creator and Pro tiers are offered at a discounted launch price:
- Creator (HitFilm Creator & Imerge Creator):
€7.50€6.25 /month (billed yearly or €15.46€9.99 billed monthly)
- Pro (HitFilm Pro & Imerge Pro):
€12.50€9.99 /month (billed yearly or €23.79€15.99 billed monthly)
If you want to, there are still perpetual licenses available. HitFilm Pro: $349 (including 12 months of updates & technical support – 3-seat license). Check out pricing here.
